Flippy

A free pixel-art pet that lives on your Windows desktop. It walks on your taskbar, climbs your windows and front-flips whenever it feels like it.

For the love of the game

No client, no deadline, no business plan. Flippy exists because I wanted a tiny friend on my desktop and thought it would be fun to build one from scratch.

What it does

Pick one of four pets: Flip the flip phone, Hopper the frog, Flapjack the pancake or Clawd. They walk along the taskbar, climb the edges of your windows, type along when you type and grab popcorn when you watch a video. Their signature move is the front flip, a wink to FlipForward.

Right-click opens a holographic menu with battles and sandcastles, and Flippy can even react to what Claude Code is doing in your terminal.

How it's built

A single Windows executable written in C# with WinForms, compiled with the compiler that ships with Windows, so there is nothing to install. Sprites are drawn with a custom pixel renderer and Python tooling. It went from a PowerShell prototype to v2.6 in a handful of releases.

The landing page ports that renderer one-to-one to the browser: you can throw the pet around, feed it and drop files on it.
